A diverse group of conservation volunteers outdoors holding up pulled boneseed weeds along a dirt track.

As 2026 comes to a close, there is no better time to roll up your sleeves, connect with like-minded nature lovers, and make a real difference for Australia’s iconic wild koalas.

The Koala Clancy Foundation is leading the charge to restore vital habitats across Victoria’s You Yangs. Whether you prefer getting your hands dirty in the bush, sowing seeds for future forests, or sipping tailored cocktails for a good cause, there are plenty of ways to get involved this November and December.

Here is what is coming up on the Koala Clancy Foundation events calendar to wrap up the year.

1. Koala Conservation Day: Weeding

Where: Little River Reserve, Little River, VIC
Cost: $30 adults, $20 children/student/concession (Children 13 and under must be accompanied by an adult)

Invasive weeds like boneseed pose a significant threat to native Australian ecosystems, crowding out the flora wild koalas rely on for food and shelter. Join the Koala Clancy team in the picturesque You Yangs to restore critical habitat by clearing boneseed from affected areas of the forest.

What to Expect:

  • Meet at the Little River Reserve before your guides lead you into areas of the You Yangs forest requiring urgent habitat restoration.
  • After a solid morning of weeding, recharge with a refreshing morning tea while chatting with fellow conservation enthusiasts.
  • While the focus is on habitat care, keep your eyes on the canopy, if luck is on your side, you might spot a wild koala resting nearby!

It is a rewarding, active day out in nature that directly supports local biodiversity.

2. Cocktails for Koalas – An Evening at Bar Clara

3. Koala Conservation Day: Seed Sowing

Cost: $30 adults, $20 children/student/concession (Children 13 and under must be accompanied by an adult)
Registrations essential

Help reach the ambitious target of planting 300,000 trees by 2030! Summer is the ideal time to sow and transplant seeds that will grow into future koala canopy trees, making this special summer event vital for next winter’s planting season.

What to Expect:

  • Rotate through a variety of fun, practical seed-sowing tasks. No prior experience is necessary, this activity is suitable for all ages and abilities.
  • The team will nurture these saplings at the Nursery HQ until they are strong enough to be planted in the You Yangs, providing climate-resilient habitat corridors.
  • A morning tea is provided, alongside a scheduled break for a BYO lunch.

Subject to conditions, an optional wild koala walk through the nearby Brisbane Ranges may be offered in the afternoon (Note: All koalas are wild and untracked, so sightings cannot be guaranteed).
